Bailieborough Poetry Festival 2018:

The 6^th Bailieborough Poetry Festival will take place this weekend from Thursday, 4^th to 7^th October. Building on previous years’ events there will be a fresh batch of poets, artists, readers and musicians.

Bailieborough Poetry Festival Programme of events:

THURSDAY 4th October-Bailieborough Library 7pm.

This year’s festival will open with a collaboration between artist Ruth McDonnell and LitLab writing group. This exhibition will feature poetry from the LitLab members responding to works from the artist’s studio. The exhibition and festival will be officially opened by Prof. Iggy McGovern.

This event will include a reading of selected poems by members of LitLab and will finish across the road in The Square Bar with more words and music by local artists.

FRIDAY 5th October- Murtagh’s Lounge- 7.30pm

‘Poetry in the lounge’

Brendan McCann will read from his recently published collection of poems, ‘Erne Valley’, which is an amazing chronicle of poems over decades of the poets’ life. He is a retired school principal and playwright.

Enda Wyley is a poet and children’s’ author and has five poetry collections to her name. She is a recipient of the Patrick and Katherine Kavanagh fellowship for her poetry and is a member of Aosdána.

An open mic will follow and the night will be rounded off with music and poetry from local artist Conor Maguire.

This unique course commencing in Bailieborough Library on October 13th offers new, emerging and professional poets an inside look at the craft and processes of those who have previously excelled at the form. This series will feature Moyra Donaldson, Noel Monahan and Colm Keegan. Taking place over six weeks, each poet will deliver a masterclass on a theme of their choice. The launch of this series will include a reading by Noel Monahan.

4.00 pm. Bailieborough Poetry Prize Presentation and reading of winning poems. The judge this year is Noel Monahan.

Bailieborough Parish Harvest Celebration:

The annual Harvest Celebration Service will take place in Bailieborough Church of Ireland on this Sunday 7^th October at 7:30pm. There is an open invitation to all the community as we gather to thank God for his provision this year. There will also be morning services in Shercock and Mullagh at 9:30am and Knockbride at 12noon. All welcome.

Mondays (during term time): Badminton, Bailieborough Church of Ireland Hall; 7-8pm for primary students, 8-9pm for secondary students.

Castle Lake Development Works:

Works on new trails and parking at Castle Lake in Bailieborough got underway on Monday last. A new trail will be developed through the new Peace Forest in the area, as well as other improvements to the public spaces.

For the foreseeable future, access to the Castle Lake, Car Park at Drumkeery and Lake Trails will be closed to the public for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Limited access will be available from the Cavan Road. Signs will be up within the Forest notifying you of Walk Closures. Please respect them, due to the potential for injury or disruption of work.

Works will be taking place on upgrading of the Car Park and Trails and development of a new trail through the recently planted Peace Forest. There will be heavy machinery working for a period of 4 weeks clearing drains and upgrading trails damaged by erosion. Please inform any friends and family of this notice. A significant step for the club as we fielded at competitive adult level for the very first time on Sunday last on the 3G v Pearse Óg. Great to be able to field at this level at last. We still have a long way to go and will learn a lot from this year but we are now fielding at all levels from U7 to adult which is significant for a Cavan hurling club. The very best wishes to the Pearse Óg player who sustained a serious, accidental, injury in the game. Next up is a game v long time Cavan serial champions Mullahoran next week. Well done to all involved.

Upgrading of Pedestrian Crossing on Main St.:

Work has commenced on the pedestrian crossing at Main Street, Bailieborough on Monday last. These works will see the installation of new flashing beacons which will make this crossing safer for pedestrians and shoppers. Works have now been completed on the footpaths on Lower Main St and Church St.

How do you say thank you to so many people… thank you everyone who came to support the ‘Race for Grace’ on Saturday, September 22^nd. A huge thank you to Tony Gregory for everything that he did and to all who helped out, sandwich makers, bakers and stewards but especially to ‘Feileacain’ and ‘A Little Lifetime Foundation’ who have been a fantastic support to not only our family but lots of families in this sad situation. Mattress Recycling:

On Saturday, October 20^th Mattresses can be brought to the waste recycling facility in Bailieborough for free. It’s part of an anti-dumping initiative to combat the illegal dumping of mattresses across the countryside. Household customers will able to recycle up to four mattresses for free.

Cootehill Pony Club:

We would like to thank everyone who supported our Annual Memorial Charity Drive on Sunday, September 23^rd. It was a good day for a great cause: Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care. A special word of thanks to the owners of the 23 horses and ponies that took part in the event and to all the supporters. Congratulations to Michael Loughran and Shane O’Neill on winning the Perpetual Shield and Cup for best turned out. We also would like to thank the Border Counties club and Loughshore Club for their support during the year. We had a safe and enjoyable years driving. The ’Open Door Sessions’:

Funding:

Under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme the Bailieborough Development association has secured funding of €100,000, to develop the main car park and the installation of seating in the Bridewell building, on Lower Main St.

Dermot’s Funeral Mass in took place in Essex, London, on Friday, 5^th October, followed by committal in Forest Park Crematorium. A Memorial Mass will be held in Ireland at a later date.

St. Annes National School is organising a ‘Fun Run’ on Sunday, October 21^st, commencing at the Community Centre. Registration will be between 11am and 12 noon. Entry fees are 5 for individuals and 10 per family. Individuals and families are invited to walk or run the 1K or 5 K routes. People are encouraged to wear fancy dress for the event and raffle tickets will be on sale for the St. Anne’s N.S. Halloween Hamper Draw. This promises to be a colourful occasion to which the whole school is looking forward to. We would love you to join us for this fun event.

Taoiseach visits Bailieborough:

Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar T.D. visited the town on Friday last as part of a tour of Cavan and Monaghan. He visited the ASD Learning Unit at Bailieborough Community School, he also received a brief preview of the Bailieborough Community School’s upcoming musical, ‘Annie Get Your Gun ‘and he also visited the school’s Sports Hall for which there are future plans to redevelop it. One of local photographer, Ollie Gargan’s photographs was presented to An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, at Bailieborough Community School. The Taoiseach also stopped off at the Bailieborough Leisure Centre, where he greeted management and staff. He then finished his visit by going to the former courthouse, which is currently under development as a new community facility.

Book Launch:

Local author, Jacqui Kelly, will launch her debut novel ‘A Man of Some Importance’ at the Library on Thursday, October 18^th at 7.30pm. All are welcome and refreshments will be served.

Hardtimes Chorus Concert:

The Down Syndrome Centre, North East, are delighted to announce that the recent Hardtimes Chorus Concert—‘A Million Dreams’—raised a total of €5,279.50. Sincere thanks to the Hardtimes Chorus, their special guests ‘Kudos’ and ‘The Song Sisters’, MC Mr. Peter Murtagh and The Irish Red Cross. Special thanks to Fr. Michael Router for the use of both St. Annes Church and the Parish Centre, to all the businesses in Bailieborough, Shercock and Maudabawn, who sold tickets and donated spot prizes and to everyone who supported the event, either by buying a ticket and/or making a donation. Bailieborough Cancer Comfort: Annual Variety Concert:

The Bailieborough Cancer Comfort Annual Variety Concert will take place in the Community Centre on Friday, November 2^nd and Saturday, November 3^rd, commencing at 8.30pm. World Mental Health Day:

As part of World Mental Health Day, the Bailieborough Walking group hosted a ‘Walk and Talk’ event in Bailieborough which featured a walk around Bailieborough Forest followed by tea in the Bailieborough Development Association Centre. Bailieborough Walking Group, the Model School, St. Anne’s N.S. and visitors from Camphill in Ballybay along with local representatives took part in the event. Also well done to the members of the Bailieborough Mental Health Association who had a stand in Tesco, Bailieborough on Friday last.

We are approaching the start of the yearly festivities and I would like to ask if when doing your Autumn cleaning that if you come across items, outfits, decorations that are in reasonable condition for either Halloween or Christmas that you donate them to us. On Saturday next, October 20^th Mattresses can be brought to the waste recycling facility in Bailieborough for free. It’s part of an anti-dumping initiative to combat the illegal dumping of mattresses across the countryside. Household customers will able to recycle up to four mattresses for free.

The ’Open Door Sessions’:

This month’s ‘Open Door Sessions’ will take place downstairs in Nixy’s, The Square Bar, Bailieborough at 9.00pm on Friday 19^th October 2018. St. Anne’s Nation School: Fun Run:

St. Annes National School is organising a ‘Fun Run’ on Sunday next, October 21^st, commencing at the Community Centre. Registration will be between 11am and 12 noon. Entry fees are 5 for individuals and 10 per family. Individuals and families are invited to walk or run the 1K or 5 K routes. People are encouraged to wear fancy dress for the event and raffle tickets will be on sale for the St. Anne’s N.S. Halloween Hamper Draw. This promises to be a colourful occasion to which the whole school is looking forward to. We would love you to join us for this fun event.

East Cavan Gaels 4-10.

So, so, so close to the breakthrough. Fantastic performances all over the field by the entire squad. Could not give or do anymore on a night where in reality our lads were the better side for the most part but Cootehill had enough to get over the line. Sometimes we don’t know which is harder to take, the clippings we got in the early years, where we were sent home with tail between our legs, or, like the past 3 years where there has only been literally a puck of the ball between us. But …… we come back, we always do, bigger, stronger and more determined than ever. These lads will be back and you can be sure and when we win our first Senior title in the years ahead most of these lads will be on the team that does it and you can quote us on that.

Chin up lads. There’s more ahead. Ye know yiz are good. Stick with the project and the medals will come, we are sure of it.

Well done to all and Kathryn and Pat management and Colin, Ben and Willie who worked with the younger lads who’ve graduated up to this side.

Bailieborough Drama Group are currently on the One Act Festival Circuit with ‘Smile Handsome’ by Liz O’Hanlon. Charlene Cadden picked up the award for Most Promising Young Actress and the Group placed 3rd in Moat Theatre, Naas on Saturday 27th October. In Coolgreany festival in Wexford on Sunday the 28th the group collected The Audience Award, as well as Best Supporting Actress for Charlene Cadden, Adjudicator’s Award went to Liz O’ Hanlon for acting performance and new drama and the Group placed 2nd overall. Their next outing is Cavan Drama Festival this Friday November 2nd in the Rugby Club in Cavan town.

Bailieborough Mid-Summer Festival and Town Events.

Following a fantastic response last year, for fundraising for the extra new Christmas Lights, the Lights Committee are in the position that they are not going to ask businesses for financial donations this year, due to the willingness of volunteers to erect the lights and Electricians to wire them. We should have enough to cover any costs incurred, if any business or individual would still like to give a donation they can do so. ‘Santa’ and the lights will be turned on, on Saturday, December 1^st at 5pm.

John Paul II Awards:

Congratulations to the six young people from the Bailieborough Church Area who received their John Paul II Awards in the Pastoral Centre, Cavan, recently. The Award is similar to the President’s Award and it acknowledges and recognises the young people’s work in the Parish. The recipients of the Awards in this area were: Barry Scanlon, Amy Tierney Ruske, Michaela Connolly, Emily Gregory, Katelyn Martin and Jodie Walsh. Last year, they helped organise, and participated in, the Christmas and Easter Ceremonies, they also trained to become Eucharistic Ministers and they distributed Holy Communion at the Pope’s Mass in the Phoenix Park.

Charlene Cadden picked up the award for Most Promising Young Actress and the Group placed 3^rd in Moat Theatre, Naas on Saturday 27^th October. In Coolgreany Festival in Wexford on Sunday, the 28^th, the group collected The Audience Award, as well as Best Supporting Actress for Charlene Cadden, Adjudicator’s Award went to Liz O’ Hanlon for Acting Performance and New Drama and the Group placed 2^nd overall.

Deepest Sympathy:

Deepest Sympathy is extended to niece Helen Clarke and extended family and friends on the death of Patsy Carolan, Fairlawns Nursing Home, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan and formerly Drumooslin, who passed away peacefully in the loving care of the matron and staff of Fairlawns Nursing Home on Saturday, October 27^th. Patsy’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church on Monday, October 29^th with burial afterwards in St. Anne’s Cemetery.

Congratulations to Bailieborough Cancer Comfort on a superb variety concert displaying so much local talent. A big shout out to Jean and Patsy Farrelly who donated a limousine heifer which raised over €12k alone on the raffle tickets for such a wonderful cause. Congratulations to Raymond Maguire, Carrickacromin who won the prize heifer.

To all who took part, worked behind the scenes, lighting and sound, gave raffle prizes, and attended our concert over the two nights, the committee say a massive thank you !! To Patsy and Jean for wonderful raffle prize of limousine heifer …. it exceeded all our expectations.

Opening of Niamh Crosby Family Comfort Room:

Thank you to the staff and management of St. James’s Hospital for officially opening the Niamh Crosby Family Comfort room last Wednesday evening. They spoke highly of Niamh and the impact Niamh’s Room is having on the day to day operations in the clinic. Thanks to all the people who supported the fundraising events and to the people who keep Niamh’s memories alive. Under 7/9/11; We start this coming week in Kingscourt Community Centre on Thursday 8th from 7-8pm for all U7/9/11 and Bailieborough on Friday 9th tbc in the Community School Sports Hall U7/9 6-7pm and U11 from 7-8pm. €3 each per session please.

Under 13; These lads are now finished for the year. We would like to thank them for their commitment this year and congratulate those who won both Feile and U15 league this year. Lots of promise in this squad which we hope will continue into 2019. Thanks to our coaches Colin, Ben and Willie for all their work all year.

Under 15; One more round of Ulster blitz and long season finished for these lads also.

Senior; Unfortunately the upcoming U20 football championship put paid to our final group game against Cootehill. We have really enjoyed putting out our first adult side and the lads themselves have really enjoyed pulling on the ECG jersey. We hope to expand this squad into 2019 by recruiting even more local adults to join the squad and the addition of even more of our own “home grown“ players going forward. Thanks to Pat and Kathryn for their dedication to getting this finally off the ground and thanks to our players for their commitment. Roll on 2019.

Under 7/9/11; A good start in Kingscourt on Thursday but the horrendous weather on Friday put paid to the Bailieborough groups start, as it was too dangerous to ask parents to drive especially those who have to travel a good distance. They will start next Friday instead.

Under 15; These lads are now also finished for the year. We thank them for their continuing commitment and recognise their success in both Feile and in the Monaghan league and were only a puck of the ball away from the Cavan Championship. We look forward to 2019 with these lads. Well done.

Break-in at Parochial House: In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Gardaí in Bailieborough responded to an alarm activation at the Parochial House in Bailieborough. On arrival it became apparent a break – in had occurred. A follow up search of the grounds was conducted which resulted in the arrest of a man. He has been charged in connection with the incident and appeared at a special sitting of Monaghan District Court on Sunday evening.

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 19th November 2018:

Under 7/9/11; All back in full swing now. Thursday in Kingscourt and Friday two groups in Bailieborough. Great to see lots of new men joining our ranks this season which is our tenth indoor season hurling. Jerseys/training tops from most of the local GAA clubs on show, Bailieborough Shamrocks, Kingscourt Stars, Killinkere, Knockbride, Shercock, Cuchulainns (Mullagh) all setting aside their football rivalry to give hurling a shot in the arm. All are very welcome. Indoors will run through all the way to early June 2019 so plenty of time to catch the bug! Equipment supplied to those who don’t have any yet while learning with us. No Kingscourt group training this coming Thursday as the local trade fair have the hall for this week. See you next week.

Drama Group qualifies for All-Ireland Finals:

Bailieborough Drama Group have now qualified for the All-Ireland One Act Drama festival having won 2^nd place in Monorhamilton on Sunday, November 18^th with their play ‘Smile Handsome’ by Liz O’Hanlon. Liz also won Best Actress on the night.

The All-Ireland’s take place on December 7th/8th and 9th in Kilmuckridge, Co. Wexford.

As a warm-up to participating in the Finals, the play will be performed in the Bailie Hotel on Sunday next, December 2^nd, at 8pm and will they will be joined by Millrace Drama Group, Mullagh with ‘None the Wiser’ directed by Irene Yore. Tickets for the event are priced at €10 and are available from the Bailie Hotel or pay at the door on the night.

The group will then go to Shercock on Thursday, December 6^th and perform with Sillan Players with their performance of ‘The Long Wet Grass’ which has also qualified for the finals. We wish both groups every success in the final.

Christmas Shoe-Box Appeal:

Inner-City Helping Homeless are appealing to people to make a small difference for someone who is down on their luck at the moment, remember charity begins at home! Last year the support we received from the public was unbelievable as we received over 20,000 shoeboxes over the Christmas period. These shoeboxes were checked and distributed to homeless adults and children right across the country and brought a smile to so many faces over Christmas.

The idea is simple. Wrap a shoebox and mark it Male or Female. In the shoebox you can put the likes of: Hats, Scarves, Gloves, Underwear, Socks Toiletries: *No aerosols, perfumes, aftershaves, mouthwash or hand sanitizers—Christmas Card or Chocolate.

If you would like to donate a shoebox to a homeless child, please specify the child’s age and whether they are male or female.

TESCO, Bailieborough are a drop off point for the Shoe Box Appeal for the homeless. PLEASE NOTE: The final date for the Shoebox Appeal, is Friday the 7^th of December.

Bailieborough Christmas Lights:

There was great excitement amongst the huge crowd gathered at the Market Square and on Main St., on Saturday evening last with the traditional ‘Switching –On’ of the Bailieborough Christmas Lights. Christmas Carols and music was provided by the Bailieborough School of Music, children from the local schools and local choristers, ‘Hardtimes Chorus’.

Santa and his Elves arrived on his sleigh (Santa’s sleigh was driven in by Martin McGuinness and this sleigh was made by Richard Kinnear and stored and repainted by Peter Reilly from Active Agri) to the great amazement of all the young children present. Santa was accompanied by the Active Agri Tractor Parade of Lights, whose tractors and other vehicles, were well turned out for the Christmas Run.

This year, Mr William Townley turned on the lights on—for those in the Community that are too young to remember, Willie put up the lights and looked after them for between 25 to 30 years. This is Bailieborough’s way of saying ‘Thanks’ to him and his son Thomas for all the years of hard work and to acknowledge the fact Willie and his generation volunteered in their community and that is not lost in today’s world! Everything went to plan, when all the dazzling lights lit up, to give the town a very Christmassy feel. The children and their parents, then had the opportunity to visit Santa and his Elves in his Grotto.

Drama Group qualifies for All-Ireland Finals:

Good luck and best wishes are extended to the Bailieborough Drama Group who will be participating in the All-Ireland One Act Drama with their play ‘Smile Handsome’ by Liz O’Hanlon.

The All-Ireland’s take place next weekend, December 7th/8th and 9th in Kilmuckridge, Co. Wexford.

The group will be performing the play in Shercock on Thursday, December 6^th and will be joined by Sillan Players with their performance of ‘The Long Wet Grass’ which has also qualified for the finals. We wish both groups every success in the final.

The event will commence at 12 noon and this year there will be new routes, more prizes and more fun! The event is open to individuals, families, teams and clubs. Dhuish Group Water Co-op:

East Cavan Swim Club:

Four swimmers from East Cavan SC will compete this year, in the Irish Short Course Championships in Lisburn, from 6th – 9th December. It is a huge achievement to reach this competition, which is the ultimate event in Irish short course swimming and the young swimmers will share the pool with the best in Irish swimming, including those who are expected to compete in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
Well done to Adrienne Keuck, Aoife Moore, Finn Longmore and Kelsey Buckland Morris. This follows on from the success of the Ulster Short Course Championships in October where these four swimmers were joined by their club mates Sorsha Cooney, Johann Behme and Katie Mulvey. Best of luck and good wishes are extended to the competitors and hopefully they will bring home the medals!!

The All-Ireland One-Act Drama Finals were held last weekend in Kilmuckridge. Co. Wexford.

Bailieborough Drama Group won 3rd prize overall in the confined section. Liz O’Hanlon also won Best Performer in the confined section. The group was nominated for ‘Best Moment of Theatre’ for the ‘killing of Kathleen by Top Dog’ – this award being won by our neighbours Sillan Players of Shercock and the play itself ‘Smile Handsome’ was highly commended for Best New Writing by Liz.

The group would like to thank everyone involved in the show as well as everyone who supported the group in any way over the last few months. The dedicated of time and effort is huge but has certainly paid off for the group.

Eddie Cooney stepped down from his position as Club Treasurer after 3 years. Eddie done marvellous work keeping the Club Finances in check over the 3 years and in the last 12 months he oversaw huge development works, namely our State of the Art Astro Turf Facility and new Ball Stop Nets around the training field. Eddie ensured all these works were completed with just a €20,000 loan. Amazing effort by Eddie. The Club would like to thank Eddie all for all the work he has done in the club. Gary Daly has come on board as our new Club Treasurer. It’s great to see a member of our Senior Team getting involved in the administration side of the GAA Club and we wish Gary well. We would like to thank all Manager’s, Parents, Supporters, Committee and volunteers who helped out this past year and we look forward to seeing everyone again in 2019.

“Bailieborough Vetinary Clinic raised a total of €625 from their annual CSPCA Dog Walk. This was achieved by donations and sponsorship cards promoted by our dedicated walkers. A special thanks to ‘Daybreak’, Barrack St, for kindly donating refreshments and to ‘Graeme’s Groom Room’ for donating spot prizes. ‘Mince Pie’ Charity Walk:

Great start to the new year of hurling! Our U7s had the privilege of starting us off with the first round of blitzes in Dundalk on Sunday last. Some great hurling with some of our lads playing their very first games for us. Five good games v Blackrock, Knockbridge, Clonduff, Newry and Ballyvarney. Getting games against Louth, Armagh and Down clubs will only bring our lads on even more. Special thanks to our player’s parents for making the long drive over. Without your support these games don’t happen. Thank you. Next week it’s the turn of the U9s with the U11s the following week.

Under 7/9/11; Great numbers at all 3 sessions this week as we returned indoors. Thursdays Kingscourt session and the two sessions in Bailieborough on Friday. Great to see all the new hurlers joining with us also.

Disabled Parking at St. Anne’s Church:

Please remember that during Mass and Service times in St. Anne’s Church, the disabled parking spaces at the front and side of the Church are for disabled badge holders only. No parking should take place outside those places, in order to keep all avenues and paths clear, in and around the Church.

The avenue through the Church Grounds is not a through road linking Chapel Road with the Virginia Road. The level of traffic was becoming dangerous for those using the Church outside of Mass times. Recently some traffic has used the Parish Centre lawn to bypass the barrier. Drivers, and other users, are reminded that the Church grounds are under 24-hour video surveillance.

Gerry Clarke, Mossbrook, 37 Grange Wood, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16 and formerly of Main St, Bailieborough, Co Cavan. Died 28th January 2019 peacefully at the Beacon Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his loving wife Mary and his brother T.M. Sadly missed by his loving family Robert, Niall, Ger (O’Donnell), Miriam, Yvonne (Malone), daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, brothers Francis, Malachy and Liam, sisters Anita, Maeve, Aileen, Kathleen, Bernadette, Joan and Rosaleen, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family & friends. Safety Improvement Works on the Virginia Road:

Funding of €50,000 has been granted for safety improvement works on the Virginia Road, Bailieborough—which is a treacherous part of the R178 road. There are two Churches and a secondary school on this short stretch of road, which many drivers approach at high speed. Cavan County Council understood the concerns of the residents, including St. Anne’s Church, and submitted the application for road safety measures. We are delighted that this application was successful, receiving the second highest allocation of funding in the county. Thank You to Councillor Sarah O’Reilly, Cavan County Council, the Road Safety Authority, An Garda Siochana and the residents of the Virginia Road for working hard on this project.

Under 7/9/11; We lost both training sessions and the Dundalk blitz to the frosty conditions! Some changes ahead of next week. The Kingscourt group will now amalgamate with the Bailieborough group on Friday from this week onwards. This will give them more age specific coaching and better all round games. U9s make second trip to Dundalk this coming Sunday.

We will put registration back a week and register all on Friday 15th in Bailieborough.

U13/15/17; U13s training on Monday on the astroturf at the Vale on Monday 14th 7-8pm. €2 each and bring water bottle. Any U15/17 with the County or Colleges squad are to be in Breffni 3G for 7pm start. The rest of lads to the Vale.

Congratulations and well done to local girl, Leanne Kiernan on winning the overall Anglo Celt ‘Sportsperson of the Year Award’ 2018, in the Cavan Crystal Hotel on Friday evening last. Leanne plays on the Senior Irish International Team and plays professionally for West Ham United Women. She is currently coming back from a hamstring injury that has kept her out of the West Ham side over the last while. We all wish Leanne all the best for the future and many congratulations on winning this very prestigious award.

The U9s had a good outing in Dundalk on Sunday showing some good skill along the way. The U11s head to Dundalk this coming Sunday at 10.

Under 7/9/11; Strong numbers at our registration night on Friday. Good training with both groups also. New text groups will be set up this week for all groups especially those moving up a year.

The U11s had a strong outing in Dundalk on Sunday with games v Monaghan, Armagh, Down and Louth clubs. Our lads were well able to hold their own.

Our U7s begin the final round of blitzes on Sunday next 10-12pm.

Club training will be on Tuesdays for the next month to facilitate local football clubs and our lads at county training on Mondays. The entry of floats in the Parade is completely free. Floats entering the Parade are requested to meet at Bailieborough Community School at 1.30pm. The Parade will be starting at 2.30pm, sharp!! is hosting a talk by Aogán Ó Fearghaíl, (Ex-President of the GAA) on Gaelic Sunday, the GAA 1918 Rebellion, when 100,000 GAA players faced down the British Empire. On Saturday 16^th March between 11am and 4pm we are holding a Property Recovery Day at Cavan Garda Station. Goalkeeping Academy for Underage Boys & Girls. – Bailieborough Shamrocks GAA Club:

Bailieborough Shamrocks are launching a goalkeeping academy for juvenile boys and girls. We have a proud tradition of producing excellent goalkeepers down through the years. We hope that our new academy will provide a platform for our juvenile kids to achieve great things as goalkeepers.

We hope to start the goalkeeping coaching in April. We encourage all managers of juvenile boys and girls from U12’s and upwards to put their goalkeepers forward for this. If you or your child is a goalkeeper and not currently playing with a club, we’d love to hear from you.

Due to the number of coaches helping out, we may not be able to take everyone who expresses an interest, but we will certainly do our best.

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 11th March 2019:

Under 7/9/11; Numbers continuing to increase each week with our Bailieborough sessions. Thanks to all our new helpers. We can’t do it without you and look forward to your continuing support. No training this week due to the holiday weekend. Dundalk blitzes are now finished. Thanks to all who made the trip on each of the six weeks we attended. We are now in the planning stage for the outdoor season whenever the Spring finally arrives!

Registration; We MUST get all our players registered by the end of March as per GAA rules. We have some exciting announcements to make in early April but it is imperative that all our players are registered with East Cavan Gaels before then.

U13/15/17; Club training Tuesday 6.45-8pm in Kingscourt harps astro pitch. The weather hasn’t helped at all lately and the forecasts not great but we will continue to prepare the best we can. Tain (Ulster) U13 and new Tain U15 leagues both begin in April.

Club Senior; Senior training on this Thursday at 8 on the astro at the Vale. New players always very welcome. First challenge games coming up with start of the league the end of March.

How long we hold on to him? Who knows?, but, with luck and the hard work that he continues to do he has a very bright future in all his chosen sports but obviously as a top athlete.
